Public Shower vs. Portable Shower
Shower free, shower clean, that’s my motto.
If given a choice between using a public shower at a camp ground or rest area and using a camping portable solar shower, the portable shower is going to win hands down every time. I am very sorry to say this but some people are just filthy. I have never understood why they treat public facilities as they do. I cannot imagine them doing the same things in their homes but who knows? Some people cannot grasp the concept that a public shower is not the facility to relieve them. You know it is true. All you need to do is take a whiff and sometimes it is worse than I can even write about here.
If you are lucky enough to find a public shower that someone has not used in place of a toilet, odds are the mold and mildew smell will gag you anyway. Some campgrounds and rest areas work hard at keeping their public showers clean but they are few and far between. And you won’t likely know if you are stopping at a clean one until you stop. And even the clean ones fight a constant battle with mold and mildew by nature of the area constantly being wet.
I will admit to being a bit of a germaphobe and cooties are not my friend. Shower sandals are simply not enough to set my mind at ease. And even if you aren’t anti-germ like I am, there are also the fees to be considered. Some camps charge you for every shower, as do the road side rest areas. And in case I haven’t yet convinced you to not use the camp public showers, there is the matter of distance from your campsite. There is nothing like stumbling through the woods in the dark with a flashlight in search of the showers which are likely lukewarm and have a privacy curtain only if you are very lucky.
Why endure all that inconvenience when you can easily pack and even tote a lightweight solar shower of your own? You control the volume of water. You control the temperature. You can set yourself up as privately as you wish. Shower free, shower clean, that’s my motto.

Definitely will try this portable shower
